01- What is email?
Email is an electronic version of letter writing. Email allows users to send and receive messages, photos, music, etc. all over the world. Not only is email much faster than traditional mail, but it’s a free perk as part of your membership to Tiger Mountain Technologies.

02- Why should I use email?
Email is an excellent way to send messages and files to friends, family, colleagues, and others around the world. You receive two FREE email accounts with unlimited use when you sign-up with Tiger Mountain Technologies.

03- Does sending email cost me anything?
No. You can send and receive unlimited email 100% free with your received payment for Internet service.

04- How fast is email delivered?
Email usually takes a few seconds to leave your computer and arrive at Tiger Mountain’s mail server, ready to send to your recipient. Of course this does depend on the size of each email. Attachments such as photos, music, themed stationary, etc. will take longer to send and receive.

05- What is my email address?
Your email address is username@lewiscounty.com where "username" is the login name you use when connecting to the internet. Each person’s email address is unique to the username because you choose your username.

06- What's the difference between my email address and my username?
Your username and password allows you to access the Tiger Mountain network in order for you to be "online." Your username is everything to the left of the @ symbol in your email address (e.g. johndoe@lewiscounty.com, where johndoe is the username).

So where do you enter your username and when do you enter your email address? You’ll enter your username to check your email at this box:

Note that there are more options than "Login to Email" that you can chose to log into. Other choices include "Account Status," "Virtual Photo Album," and "Secure E-Mail."

To log into a different choice, simply:
  1. Enter your username
  2. Enter your password
  3. Click on the small arrow and chose where you’d like to log into
  4. Click on "GO!"

07- Why can't I send my email?
If you’ve written an email and it won’t send check the following:
  • Are you online?
  • Is the email address you’re trying to send to correct?
  • Are you sending a large attachment? If you’re sending an email with an attachment 500K or larger, it can take several minutes to send.

08- Why can't I login to my email account?
When you login you need to type your username and password correctly and EXACTLY the way you asked us to enter it into our database. Usernames and passwords are generally lowercase and can include numbers. Try deleting everything in the username and password boxes, then press "backspace" and "delete" a few times in each of the boxes. Now try re-entering your username and password again.

09- Is it important for me to spell email addresses correctly?
A misspelled email address will result in the mail being sent to the wrong person, or returned to you. Email returned to you because of an incorrect email address or other email error will have the address: MAILERDAEMON@lewiscounty.com

Here’s an example of a correct email address: johndoe@lewiscounty.com
  • jondoe@lewiscounty.com is wrong because john is missing the "h"
  • johndoe@lewiscounty,com is wrong because there’s a comma instead of a period before "com"
  • johndo@lewiscounty.com is wrong because "do" is missing the "e"

10- Do I have to be online to write an email?
No. You don’t have to be online to write an email if you’re using a program such as Outlook Express, where you can save an email and have it sent the next time you are online.

Yes, you’ll need to be online if you’re using the web mail service found on our homepage at www.lewiscounty.com

11- Does my computer have to be connected to the Internet to receive email?
No. Your email is stored on our servers until you decide to connect to the internet to retrieve it.

12- Can I read email if I'm not online?
Yes, if you’ve downloaded messages with Outlook Express. However, you need to be online to retrieve new messages or to check your mail with our web mail.

13- Does Tiger Mountain Technologies scan email for viruses?
Yes! Tiger Mountain Technologies actively scans ALL incoming and outgoing email for viruses, trojans, worms, and other malicious programs. We provide this service to each and every one of our customers absolutely free.

14- Can I send more than just text in emails?
Not at all. You can send text, photos, music, video, and other files on your computer.

15- What is an attachment?
An attachment is any file that you attach to send with your email. You can attach any file on your computer, but you can’t send files too big. Files 500 Kilobytes (KB, or K) or more are considered big. The time needed to send or download an attachment is dependant upon the size of the attached file.

Files 500K and larger can cause Outlook Express to slow down, freeze, or stop responding all together. It is HIGHLY recommended that you check your mail via the web mail instead. Although large attachments will still take a long time to download, the web mail (once it finishes downloading) will show you ALL of your mail.

16- How large should emails be?
A good rule of thumb is that emails shouldn’t be any larger than 2MB (two Mega Bytes). Large emails take longer for you to send and to receive. Tiger Mountain Technologies has a maximum limit of 20 MB for attachments for an individual email.

17- Why can't I open an attachment?
It could be one of several reasons. Sometimes you need the same program that the attachment file was created in. For example if an attachment is a Photoshop Document then you’ll need Photoshop to open the file. Another cause could be that the person who created the file could have saved the file in a wrong format. Another reason could be that you need an updated version of a program, if that is the case you can usually find an update at the program manufacturer’s website.

Outlook Express' default option is to not allow attachments to be opened. If you want to use Outlook Express to check your email and view attachments then you'll need to make a change to the settings.

  1. Open up Outlook Express
  2. In the menu bar click on "Tools", then scroll down to "Options"

  3. In the new window that opens, click on the "Security" tab
  4. To allow attachments, uncheck the box that reads: "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus."

  5. Click "Apply" then "OK" to save the changes

18- Why can't I see images in Outlook Express?
There are two ways to enable images embedded into email messages. One method will permanently enable images, and the other will allow you to enable images at your discretion.
    Permanently enable images:
  1. Open Outlook Express
  2. Click "Tools" and then select "Options"

  3. Click on the "Security" tab
  4. UNCHECK the "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that cold potentially be a virus."
  5. UNCHECK the "Block images and other external content in HTML e-mail." Below is an example of the boxes that should be unchecked.

  6. Click OK and you should now see the images
    Enable images as you want:
Messages that have enbedded images will have a red "X" where images would normally be, and just above the message itself is a button that, when pressed, would allow images for that message. Below is an example:

19- Why does my email begin to download, but then stop?
This may occur if you have a large amount of email, email with large attachments, or an email with a corrupt file. The easiest way to resolve this is to log into the web mail and delete some of your unwanted email to allow newer mail to download faster.

Another cause to this is that Outlook Express could be set to hang up after "Sending and Receiving." When this option is checked, Outlook Express disconnects your Internet connection after it brings in your email and can sometimes disconnect you if it's trying to bring in excessively large email attachments. This can be changed by following the steps in the question #21.

20- What's an email server?

A mail server is a computer that sends, receives, sorts, and distributes email. It will hold your mail until you’re ready to download it.

21- Why do I get disconnected from the Internet after I check my email with Outlook Express?
Outlook Express could be set to hang up after "Sending and Receiving." When this option is checked, Outlook Express disconnects your Internet connection after it brings in your email and can sometimes disconnect you if it's trying to bring in excessively large email attachments. This can be changed by following the walk though below:

  1. Open up Outlook Express
  2. Click "Tools" and then select "Options"

  3. Click on the "Connection" tab

  4. UNcheck the "Hang up after sending & receiving" option.

  5. Click "OK" and the issue should be resolved.

22- What is spam?
Spam is junk email, often times unsolicited by the receiver. However, if a long lost friend or relative obtains your email address and sends you a message this isn’t spam even though it’s unsolicited.

Real spam is mass flooding of many different email addresses with the same email message. Usually this is an advertisement or mailing list message. Most spam is advertising for dubious products, scams, and questionable services.

spam is generated by stealing internet mail lists, forum and usenet postings, and general scanning the internet for email addresses.

23- How do I stop receiving spam?
The truth is you can’t. Just like traditional junk mail, there isn’t much you can do to prevent you from ever getting spam. However, there are some things you can do to reduce the amount of spam you receive.
  • Do not open email with suspicious subjects
  • Do not open email from senders whose addresses you don’t recognize
  • Be conscientious of who you give your email address to, what mailings you register for, and what sites you browse
If you don’t see a reduction in the spam you receive, then do the following:
  1. Give us a call at Tiger Mountain Technologies and ask us to set-up your FREE Spam Assassin filtering. spam Assassin is a FREE service we offer to our customers. Once it’s set-up…
  2. Connect to the Internet
  3. Go to www.lewiscounty.com
  4. On the left there is a large blue box that says: "Username" and "Password." Type in your username then password then click on "GO!" You should now be in your web mail that looks similar to this:

Now that your Spam Assassin filtering has been activated you can weed out new spam messages that you receive.
  • Identify email messages that you believe are spam
  • Click the small box on the far right of each spam message. A Green checkmark should appear
  • Move your mouse down to the bottom of the screen where "Trash" is next to the "Move" button
  • Click on the small arrow and select the "spam-learn" option
  • Click on the "Move" button
Now that those messages are in the "spam-learn" folder your spam Assassin filter will become smarter and reject future messages from those senders. To reduce the amount of spam you receive even more DO NOT open messages that appear to be spam, simply move them to the "spam-learn" folder.

24- How do I set-up a new Outlook Express account?
